Chopstick Delight

We preordered the winter melon soup and pi pa duck. When asked if we could have half a duck they replied no as there were no other preorders to share with us. Alright, fine. When we arrived, we were served by an older male staff who looked very uninterested. When asked if they still make the olive vegetable minced pork tofu, he replied in a condescending way as if I couldn't read. He was later seen sitting on the next table looking at his phone... The table next to us knew one of the other staff, so they got the preferential treatment when their plates were piled up with bones and food wastes. Our plates plates were also piled up with the duckbones, but we were left to continue piling up the mountain.... no service whatsoever.... ok I got it... we were not regulars... When the dinner was served, we found that a part of the winter melon was a bit bitter but the rest of the soup was fine. The duck was just a bit too much for us when we wanted to try other dishes. Overall, the food quality was ok but nothing outstanding. However, when we were about to leave. The 3rd table arrived and asked if there were any pi pa duck. The kitchen said yes. Now, I thought it was meant to be reordered and we were told no one else wanted so we had to have it whole! I pointed this out as I was paying and the lady looked at me for a few seconds, and said business has been a bit quiet... goodness me... you made us ate the whole duck just to increase your sales... This was exactly the reason why your business was not that great!

Amazing authentic Cantonese food. Hard to find dishes at reasonable prices. We didn't get the snow crab as it was huge min 3lb Must pre order the winter melon soup and pipa duck. Pipis were also good. Worth a visit and book ahead. Will have to come back to try crocodile meat and the beef shabu shabu hotpot I saw other tables having.

This place was completely packed on a Saturday evening at 5.30pm, so I definitely suggest making a reservation before going. Take note that some items are pre-order only. Delicious food, everything was great. We pre-ordered the pipa roast duck and winter melon soup which were amazing. Portion sizes are substantial. Quite a large menu with a good mix of unique/intriguing and classics.

We were greeted with a high level of indifference by a woman who also took offhand to the next level. We observed this behaviour was not reserved for us alone but other diners as well. Our menus were thrown onto the table and this was just the beginning! Fortunately, the food was good however the experience was marred by her unacceptable conduct. To quote Massimo Bottura “Good floor staff can save a modest dish but bad service can ruin a great dish.”

A bit of a disappointing meal at Chopsticks Delight. There are more misses than hits in what we ordered. Granted, we didn’t order the “must trys” like crab w foie gras and pipa duck, but because we decided on the last minute to go there, we couldn’t pre-order anything. I thought, well, if they are famous for ducks, then Peking duck should be good?! Sadly that’s not the case at all. The duck took ages to come and it was already pre-wrapped, with way too much sauce, lettuce (rather than cucumber and leeks) and very (too) fatty duck meats. My usually Peking duck kid was not impressed. Hubby ordered truffle fried rice, which is quite nice actually and kiddo’s salty fish chicken fried rice wasn’t bad either, although not much salty fish flavour. My highly anticipated crab w egg white was a huge disappointment- it was way too salty and it tasted only of saltiness and oiliness. The char kuey teow was even worse. I know kiddo ordered it and we asked for non-spicy, but this is just dull and flavour less. ☹️☹️☹️☹️ so sad, especially when we drove so far to eat there (thankfully because we have other errands to do around the area, otherwise I would be so annoyed! 😑
